Our Story
Gayle Murray and Marge Hardy founded The Children’s Centre in 1990 to offer the highest quality childcare and child development to the community. The founders each leveraged decades of collective experience and professional development from their preschool and childcare businesses in Bowie and Crofton. Over the years, Mrs. Murray and Mrs. Hardy’s children, grandchildren, and now great-grandchildren have been involved in the Centre as students and staff. Many of our loyal staff members were introduced to the Centre as children and have come back as adults to work with us!
Our Mission
The Children’s Centre has two main goals: to nurture children with love; and to stimulate their natural desire to learn. We want to help prepare your child to become an independent person with strong self-worth and a love of learning and creativity! Your child’s day at the Centre will include a complete preschool curriculum. Each child is placed in a class appropriate to their age. Our Centre enhances the development of your child through a warm and loving atmosphere. We supplement the safety and affection that is naturally present in your home so that you can know that your child is cherished while they are here. Our community of children, parents, and staff is a family!
Our Campus
Our classrooms are designed with many different interest areas for a variety of engaging, interactive play opportunities and activities. We arrange the areas so that staff can visually always see the children. Parents are also welcome to visit and observe. Our Centre is well equipped and maintained, but our pride and joy is the playground, which is nearly two acres. Your child will have plenty of room to run, play, and create new, imaginative ways to have fun! Our staff supervises the children in outdoor activities. Outdoor and indoor play is a large part of childhood learning and development, and our campus is well-suited to help you fulfill that need in your child’s life. Providing children with a safe and engaging space for children to learn how to play with others is very important to The Children’s Centre, owners and staff.
